KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday said he and President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai were jointly trying to appoint eligible and professional individuals as Cabinet members.

A statement from the CEO’s office said Abdullah met a number of civil society activists from various provinces.

The statement quoted Abdullah as saying that the government had initiated serious and wide-ranging efforts to meet people’s demands and come up to their expectations.

He said the efforts included strengthening security, ensuring good governance, economic development and creating jobs for the youth.

Abdullah said he had done much work with President Ahmadzai in the formation of the new Cabinet and the effort had been to appoint expert, eligible and professional individuals as ministers.

“The government plans to assure the masses that they no longer pay bribes to get resolved their problems in government departments and that every Afghan is equally treated.”

Abdullah said they were paying special attention to law implementation and once the law was equally enforced, it would ensure equal rights to all Afghans and promote the spirit of nationhood.

He called electoral reforms one of the government’s priorities, saying he had been working with President Ghani in this regard to invent a comprehensive and effective system that could assure the Afghans their votes were counted.

Abdullah said the national unity government had clear definition for friends and foes that it went ahead with preserving the hard-won gains and national interests.

It has been a month since the unity government was formed but the new Cabinet is yet to be introduced. President Ghani had recently said he was in no hurry to form the Cabinet, which he said needed enough time and utmost care.
