JALALABAD (Pajhwok): French Ambassador Jean-Michel Marlaud on Saturday said his country was committed to supporting the new government in Afghanistan.
Marlaud was addressing a gathering at the Governor’s House in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, a statement from the Governor’s House said.
Deputy Nangarhar governor Mohammad Hanif Gardiwal and the police chief were also present on the occasion, the brief statement said.
Provincial officials thanked the French envoy for his country’s continued assistance for the development of the education sectors in the province.
Gardiwal said Afghanistan eyed broader relationship with France in all areas of mutual interest, adding that France was a key player in world’s politics.
He briefed the ambassador on efforts at promoting higher education in the province and urged him to provide education scholarships for Nangarhar University students to pursue higher studies in French universities.
The French political advisor, who accompanied the ambassador on his visit, assured continued assistance in areas of health and education.
He said both the countries enjoyed cordial relations and France would continue to provide Afghanistan with aid in different sectors under the strategic agreement.
