Gen. Zahir stays on as Kabul police chief

KABUL (Pajhwok): Lt. Gen. Mohammad Zahir Zahir’s resignation has been turned down and he would continue as Kabul police chief, an official said on Monday.

Hashmatullah Stanikzai, the Kabul police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that government officials wanted Gen. Zahir to continue with his assignment.

A day earlier, Stanikzai had said Gen. Zahir did not want to continue with his job and had resigned. There were also reports that Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi had been appointed as new police chief for Kabul.
