Ghani vows to solve Kabul citizens’ problems

Ghani vows to solve Kabul citizens’ problems

Nov 18, 2014 - 21:07

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday said permanent solution would be found to problems being faced by residents of central Kabul province.

The president was talking to a number of parliament members from Kabul at his office, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

The MPs discussed with the president increasing problems of insecurity, low quality constructions, unemployment, traffic hazards, growing population, the lack of professional teachers, healthinfo-icon facilities and nepotism in appointments on key posts.

In response, President Ghani said reforms in the municipality, police and other government entities were inevitable. He said Kabul would develop when developmental activities were extended to its neighbouring provinces.

The president told the lawmakers there was no dearth of land in Kabul but improper planning and illegal constructions had made it not suitable for living.

He said urbanisation issues needed a strategic planning, time and proper implementation.

At the end, the president assured the public representatives of regular meetings with them to discuss issues and find possible resolutions to them.

Meanwhile, talking to MPs from Kapisa, Parwan, Panjsher, Bamyan and Maidan Wardak provinces in a separate meeting, the president said the country could not prosper until the three pillars of the state moved together.

The MPs informed the president about problems in their respective provinces. The problems they cited included insecurity, joblessness, lack of educationinfo-icon and healthcare facilities and electricity and others.

The lawmakers urged President Ghani to give special attention to the development of agricultureinfo-icon and natural resources in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

They called for reforms in the justice and judicial organs. “I don’t want our decisions to be confined to words only. We should implement what we decide,” a statement from the Presidential Palace quoted the president as saying.

“The people of Afghanistan should trust me and I am responsible to take measures for solving their problems and meeting their demands. These measures will be certainly taken, but gradually,” he said.
