Girls’ volleyball event held in Bamyan

Dec 10, 2014 - 16:32

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A girls’ volleyball tournament was held in central Bamyan province as a part of campaign to curb violence against womeninfo-icon.

The first match was played between Syedabad and Kart-i-Sulh teams from Bamyan City. The Kart-i-Sulh team won Tuesday’s encounter.

Sakina, a spiker from the winning side, told Pajhwok Afghan News it was not important who had won the match; women’s participation was important.

Spectator Razia, a supporter of Kart-i-Sulh, said: “I am very happy seeing the first-ever tournament featuring girls.”

Syed Eshaq Hashimi, director of sportsinfo-icon, acknowledged there were many hurdles to promoting women’s sports in Bamyan. He said there was no proper playground for female players.
