TARINKOT (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen slit the throat of a religious scholar in front of his house in central Uruzgan province, an official said  on Thursday.

Abdul Rashid, the slain scholar, was resident of the Chinartu district, the district chief, Faiz Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the incident took place in Chalbi locality where he lived. The assailants forced Rashid out of his home and slashed his throat, he added.

The district chief blamed the Taliban for killing the cleric. But the insurgent group has not yet commented on the incident.
