HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A spate of assassination attempts, kidnappings and lack of coordination have contributed to growing insecurity in western Herat province, a delegation said on Monday.
Hamidullah Farooqi, advisor to the president and head of the team that visited the province for fact finding, told journalists Herat was facing different kinds of challenges, specifically interference by foreign intelligence agencies.
“Simultaneously, Herat is also in the grip of internal challenges such as lack of coordination among various government departments and neighbouring countries’ interference,” he alleged.
He said the delegation had held a series of meetings with local elders, civil society members and government officials. They were of the opinion the province face a challenge from deteriorating law and order, he added.
Farooqi pledged the central government remained committed to helping bolster security in Herat and taking stern action against inefficient officials.
