KABUL in the keenly-contested final to win the Million League Championship in Kabul on Friday, organisers said.
Arranged by the Loba Cricket Community (LCC), the weeklong twenty/20 event lasted a week. Eight teams including two clubs from Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was played at the Kabul International Stadium.
LCC chief Zarab Shah Zaheer told Pajhwok Afghan News that Khyber Green FATA, batting first, posted a total of 181 runs in the stipulated 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Rehan’s 70-run knock was the highlight of their innings.
But the Hewad Dost Club exhibited their guts, reaching the target in the final over for the loss of nine wickets. Muslim Musa smashed a superb 47, including four sixes, and Mohib Oryakhel chipped in with 33 to guide their side to victory.
Muslim was adjudged Man of the Match, another Hewad Dost player Habib Ghazi Man of the Tournament, Asif Afridi Best Bowler and Azimullah Mobarez Best Batsman. Fazal Zazai was honoured for hitting the biggest number of sixes.
Government officials, including deputy ministers of border and tribal affairs and commerce, members of president-elect Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s camp, Shamshad TV head Fazli Karim Fazal and former Maidan Wardak governor Halim Fidaee gave away prizes to outstanding cricketers.
Khyber Green FATA captain Timor Afridi thanked the organisers for their traditional hospitality. Treated with sincerity and respect, they never felt strangers during their stay in Afghanistan, he said.
