SHARAN/QALAT (Pajhwok): The police chief for the Janikhel district of southeastern Paktika province was killed in a roadside bombing near his house on Wednesday.
Second Lt. Shah Faisal was on his way to the district headquarters when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb 200 metres away from his home, killing him and one of his guards, an official said on condition of anonymity.
Residents confirmed Faisal had died in the blast.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the blast that they said killed the Janikhel police chief along with two others.
In southern Zabul province, the Shajoy district police chief was injured along with seven others in a hand grenade attack on Wednesday, Zabul deputy police chief Ghulam Jilani Farahi said.
The incident took place in the Mirwais Mena area of Qalat, the provincial capital, at a guest house belonging to the district police chief, Mohammadullah Ahmadi, at around 4pm, he added.
Farahi said police had opened their investigation into the blast, but it remained uclear how the blast occurred.
A doctor on duty at the civil hospital, wishing anonymity, confirmed receiving seven wounded people at the hospital, including a son of the district police chief.
The Taliban have not yet commented about the incident.
