KABUL (Pajhwok): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has asked the federal government to evolve a formula for the early repatriation of Afghan refugees.

KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak told reporters in Peshawar on Sunday his administration could not wait for another year and the federal government should ensure return of the Afghans.

Khattak said: “The (KP) cabinet has unanimously agreed on sending Afghan refugees back to their country because they have also caused an increase in heinous crimes.”

Following the December 16 on an army-run school in Peshawar, where nearly 150 people were killed, he said, the situation needed a thorough review, he said, fearing the presence of Afghans might cause more deadly incidents.

“We want the federal government to include the issue of Afghan refugees in the national action plan because they are playing the role of facilitator in the terrorism incidents. They cannot be given more time in the province,” Khattak said.

Also on Sunday, police arrested more than 70 suspects during raids in different areas of Peshawar. Some Afghan nationals were also held during the raids in Bihari Colony, Abshaar Colony, Kababyan, Tehkal, Palosai, Regi and adjacent areas.
