MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): One person was killed and 14 others were injured in a bomb blast in Mehtarlam, the capital of eastern Laghman province, on Friday, an official said.

Sarhadi Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosion occurred in front of a food market at 9: 30am on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

It was a remote-controlled blast and the device had been attached to a motorbike by anti-state elements, he added.

Dr. Abdul Latif Qayyumi, director of Laghman Civil Hospital, confirmed receiving nine wounded people at the hospital.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion, but the Independent Directorate of Local Governance blamed the attack on militants.
