Land allocated for teachers’ township awarded to AISA

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Education Investment Support Agency (AISA) without any taking the teachers’ community into confidence.

Education director Mohammad Akbar Stanikzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that the procedures for the township construction were just completed and they planned to distribute the land plots among teachers in near future.

But he said that Governor Niaz Mohammad Amiri awarded the land to AISA due to the reasons best known to the governor.

He said hundreds of acres of land were currently under construction of industrial parks by the AISA. “In 2012, the ministry of education and the governor’s house in joint consultation allocated 550 acres of land in Dawlat Kala area of Mohammad Aghi district for Teachers Township and the ministry of urban development passed the township’s master plan,” he recalled.

Stanikzai added map for the township cost over 5 million afghanis and the education department had planned to distribute the plots among 1,000 teachers.

Stanikzai said he had tried to convince the governor not to award the allocated land for AISA but he did not listen. A number of teachers in Logar warned they would stage protests if they were not given back their due right.

Noor Ahmad, a teacher in Zahidabad school of Mohammad Aghi district, said: “We are serving our people to prepare a generation for a better tomorrow but in return the government has taken back the land allocated for construction of our houses.”

Governor Amiri said that building an industrial park in the land was the plan of former governor Arsala Jamal. He said that he supported the project because it was a national project and could help in development of the province.

The education department had enough time to construct the township, but they were slow to take action on the regard during the past five years that was why the land had been reserved for industrial park.

“I have not taken any arbitrary action rather I discussed the issue with former education minister Farooq Wardak. I told Wardak that I will allocate another area for teachers’ township,” Amiri said.
