ZABUL (Pajhwok): An enraged man shot dead seven persons of his family before he was killed in a brief exchange of fire with police in southern Zabul province, an official said on Friday.
Col. Ghulam Jilani Farahi, a senior police official, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the gruesome incident took place in Rasala village late on Thursday.
The man pointed his gun on his family leaving his wife, his two brothers and their wives and two children dead on the spot.
The killer was trying to flee his home but he was encircled by police, he said, adding that the murderer opened fire on a police party and he was killed in exchange of gun fire.
However, Mirwais, a resident of Rasala village, said the killer was mentally retarded who was released from a jail three days back.
