Media role imperative to promote Afghanistan’s image
TEHRAN (Pajhwok): An Afghan delegation has asked the Iranian ministry of culture and Islamic guidance to condemn terrorism and direct its media to help project true image of Afghanistan.
The delegation traveled to Iran on Sunday held meetings with Dr. Intizami, the deputy minister of culture and Islamic guidance, and a number of other officials.
The delegation included a number of officials including the Ministry of Interior, deputy minister of information and culture Semin Hasanzada and some journalists.
During the course of meetings, the Iranian officials were asked to allow broadcast Afghan television channels and improve journalistic and cultural relations between the two countries.
Semin Hasanzada stressed that Iranian media should project positive image of Afghanistan such as achievements of Afghan security forces to discourage militancy.
“Unfortunately some media outlets ignore Afghanistan’s achievements that damage the interests of our country,” she said.
Mohammad Afsar Rahbin, Afghanistan cultural attaché in Iran, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Iranian scholars denounce terrorism especially suicide attacks and project the issue in their media.
He said that terrorism was a serious threat to the region and need regional cooperation to combat the menace.
Dr. Intizami said Afghan channels were not broadcasted in Iran due to frequency issues and he mentioned legal restrictions of Iran government over media.
Intizami, however, pledged he would discuss the issue with media outlets to promote positive image of Afghanistan.
