PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The mayor for Mohammad Agha district of central Logar province has been shot dead inside his home by suspected insurgents, police said on Friday.
The district police chief, Abdul Wakil Haqyar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mayor Saifullah Mujahid was at his home when armed militants entered his residence last night and shot him dead.
A female guest, who was injured in the incident, had been taken to hospital, said Haqyar, who added an investigation into the matter had been opened.
Saifullah, who was a former jihadi group, had survived a gun attack that left three others person dead last year.
He had been serving as mayor of the Mohammad Agha district over the past five years.
