Most Paktia depts. not paying sanitation dues

Dec 02, 2014 - 14:15

GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Mayor of the southeastern Paktia province complained on Tuesday most of the departments were defaulters to the municipality and did not release cleanliness funds, which was badly affecting the sanitation work.

Agha Mohammad Saadi told Pajhwok Afghan News almost 40 civil and military institutions were legally bounded to pay cleanliness fee every month.

There were some departments, he pointed out that did not pay their dues for over a year, he added.

The money the departments owed had reached to tens of millions afghanis, he said, adding if that money were released it would help them initiate a number of development projects.

He said the municipality had no other resources and they were carrying out the cleanliness drive through the money they were getting from the departments.

In addition, some shops and markets’ owners were also employing delaying tactics to pay their dues.

Abdul Wali Sahi, the deputy governor, acknowledged most of the departments were defaulter to municipality and that efforts were on to make them accountable.
