KABUL (Pajhwok): Media support organisation NAI on Tuesday welcomed the endorsement of the access to information law by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
Sadiqullah Tawhidi, the head of NAI, hoped the endorsement of the law would provide access to important information. He said the law should have been approved 13 years back.
The law, he said, had been approved by the Wolesi Jirga — or lower house of parliament — back in July after four years of debate.
After its approval by the lower house, media groups, human rights and civil society organisations mounted pressure on the president to endorse the law.
Tawhidi said the endorsement of the law was yet another step forward toward the freedom of media organizations in Afghanistan.
