LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Education officials say nearly a million text books and teacher guides have reached southern Helmand province, resolving problems in the education sector to some extent.

A spokesman for the provincial Education Department, Abdul Saboor Nawzadai, told Pajhwok Afghan News the textbooks loaded in 18 containers had arrived in Lashkargah safe and sound, saying the delivery resolved 90 percent books’ shortage in Helmand.

He said the process to dispatch and distribute the 937,000 textbooks to remote areas and districts would be launched soon.

He said ban had been imposed on sale and purchase of textbooks in the market and if someone found selling the books would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Students expressed their pleasures over the delivery of textbooks by the Ministry of Education in Kabul.

A student at the Tor Tank High School in Lashkargah, Ihlullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that textbooks could not be delivered to students in-time over the past few years.

But this time it was a timely dispatch of the books, which would help students enhance their capacity and save their time, the student said.
