KABUL (Pajhwok): Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander on Sunday said the number of Afghan immigrants to the country had increased to 2,000 a year.
In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, the visiting minister said bilateral relations between Canada and Afghanistan had improved over the past decade.
He said Canada was among the world and permanent stay.
Alexander recalled in the past, relationship between the two countries had been limited to immigrant visas, but the two nations were currently looking forward to further improving their political, economic, trade and cultural ties.
The minister said currently 120,000 to 140,000 Afghan-Canadians in Canada were playing their role in his country’s economic development.
“Canada looks forward to strengthening its relationship with Afghanistan,” he said, adding soldiers from his country, part of the US-led coalition, had ended their combat mission in Afghanistan after losing 158 colleagues.
