KABUL within 24 hours, saying his entry into the country had been banned.

Earlier, Matthew Rosenberg was banned from leaving Afghanistan after he was summoned by the AGO in connection with interrogations over a story he ran about the presidential elections.

The NYT published the story on discussions among Afghan officials to form an unity government, a report vehemently rejected by the government in Kabul.

On Tuesday, the United States urged the government of Afghanistan to lift the travel ban on the reporter.

The AGO said it had launched investigation into the report that sent shock waves among countrymen and caused insecurity. Rosenberg failed to give satisfactory answers about his sources.

According to the NYT report, powerful figures in the Afghan government are discussing the formation of a governing committee as a way of breaking the deadlock that followed the elections.

“It is not the first time the New York Times has published a divisive report against the country’s interests. This newspaper has published many fabricated reports, paving the way for foreign interference in the election affairs,” the AGO added.
