PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Three policemen were wounded on Sunday when a man lobbed a hand grenade into the gate of the governor’s house, where newly-elected provincial council (PC) members were taking oath in central Logar province, an official said.

The attacker was arrested after he tried to enter the governor’s house and disrupt the oath-taking ceremony, Logar police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told Pajhwok Afghan News. The incident took place around 11.am.

The police chief said three policemen were slightly injured in the blast and that a pistol had been recovered from the attacker. He said the attacker wanted to open fire at the oath ceremony.

However, he did not identify the attacker, pending an investigation.

Losing provincial candidates in Kabul have warned of disrupting a scheduled oath-taking ceremony for winning provincial council candidates.

Final results from the April 5 elections have sparked protests by losing runners who allege massive irregularities in compiling the results by the election officials.
