KABUL, US President Barack Obama on Sunday pledged continued support to the people of the Afghans and the incoming government.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said that Obama, in a letter to Karzai, conveyed his congratulations to the Afghan nation on the 95th Independence Day. Obama praised the participation of millions of Afghan in the landmark presidential and provincial council elections.
The Afghans had shown to the world that they wanted a democratic, peaceful and progressive Afghanistan, the massage said. Obama reiterated Washington’s support to Kabul and said his country was waiting for the election outcome.
Afghanistan is set to celebrate its 95th Independence Day on Tuesday (August 19).
