Obama pledges long-term support to Afghanistan

KABUL, US President Barack Obama on Sunday pledged continued support to the people of the Afghans and the incoming government.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said that Obama, in a letter to Karzai, conveyed his congratulations to the Afghan nation on the 95^th Independence Day. Obama praised the participation of millions of Afghan in the landmark presidential and provincial council elections.

The Afghans had shown to the world that they wanted a democratic, peaceful and progressive Afghanistan, the massage said. Obama reiterated Washington’s support to Kabul and said his country was waiting for the election outcome.

Afghanistan is set to celebrate its 95^th Independence Day on Tuesday (August 19).
