Over 14,00 insurgents killed in east: ANA
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Over 1,400 insurgents have been killed in Afghan National Army (ANA) operationss during the last nine months in the eastern zone, the military said on Monday.
A statement from the 201st Sailab corps said that ANA conducted a total of over 100 anti-militants offensives in seven provinces coming under the command of 201st Sailab corps.
Gen. Zaman Waziri said during the anti-rebels campaigns, 1,474 rebels had been killed, 719 wounded and another 493 captured by the security forces.
In addition, a huge amount of weapons, arms and drugs had also been recovered in the wake of the security operations, he added. The security forces thwarted another 275 subversive acts of terrorists.
However, the statement did not share details in line with losses inflicted on Afghan security forces in the anti-Taliban offensives.
The 201st Sailab corps revealed the facts and figures during US secretary of defence, Chuck Hagel, visit. Gen. Waziri said Hagel had assured him ANA would be equipped with advanced weaponry and provided with air support in future operations.
