KABUL, Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups.

Addressing a press conference, MoI spokesman Sediq Sediqi said insurgents were trying to mount pressure on the unity government to make people believe that the new administration had failed.

He said signing the bilateral security agreement (BSA) with the US had a clear message to Taliban that Afghanistan would never be left alone. BSA was the main reason for insurgents stepping up their attacks, he remarked.

“Regional terrorist networks including Afghan Taliban, Pakistani Taliban, Haqqani network, Al-Qaeda, Lashkar-i-Taiba and Lashkar-i-Jhangvi were involved in the attacks,” he alleged.

During the last couple of weeks, more than 10 terrorist attacks occurred in Kabul and a suicide bombing in Paktika targeted volleyball players.

Sediqi said amid looming threats Afghanistan’s intelligence agencies needed more investment and support. “War in the country is a complex one and the region’s intelligence networks are involved.

“Therefore, we hope people will understand the complexity of the threats we are facing,” the spokesman observed, hoping the Afghan security establishment would get more international support.

He said 610 insurgents had been killed and 230 arrested as a result of 252 clearance operations were underway in the country.
