Pakistan’s messages positive: Presidential Palace

KABUL in the fight against terrorism.

President Ghani met Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the Presidential Palace in Kabul in the afternoon, a statement from the palace said.

It said the Pakistani delegation reiterated their country’s cooperation resolve for peace in Afghanistan and informed about measures Pakistan had taken in this regard.

The statement called as positive the messages conveyed by the Pakistani delegation and said the outcome of the Pakistan’s pledges and measures would become clear over the next few weeks.

The statement said the Kabul administration awaited positive outcome from Pakistan’s measures and bilateral cooperation between the two countries on strengthening peace and stability in the region.

A separate statement from the Presidential Palace said Gen. Raheel held a meeting with presidential advisor on national security Mohammad Hanif Atmar at the palace.

The statement said both the sides discussed further enhancing bilateral cooperation and expressed their satisfaction with the progress so far made in bilateral issues.

It quoted Gen. Raheel as saying his country was cooperating with Afghanistan in advancing the Afghan peace process and in this regard, Pakistan would bring into use all resources.

At the meeting, the two sides insisted increased cooperation between the brotherly and Muslim nations would help bring peace and stability to the region.

The Pakistan army’s media wing said Gen. Raheel, while meeting President Ghani, said that Afghanistan’s enemy was also Pakistan’s enemy.

ISPR said the army chief held important meetings with Afghan president as well as CEO Dr Abdullah Abdullah.

During his meeting with Ghani, both the leaders pledged support to each other in their fight against terrorism and vowed to restrict the use of their soil against each other, said the ISPR statement.

Both countries also agreed to continue the ongoing operation against militants in their respective countries, the statement added.

General Raheel also met with Abdullah who acknowledged the overall positive trajectory in bilateral relations. Abdullah also talked about progress in border management and intelligence sharing.

Earlier, General Raheel along with Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar arrived in Kabul for a one-day official visit.
