KABUL Army Chief General Raheel Sharif is due in Kabul on Thursday (6th November) to meet President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on issues of common interest, particularly the security challenge.
A brief statement from the Pakistan Army’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), made a brief announcement regarding the trip. Gen. Sharif is also expected to meet National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar and Defence Minister Bismillah Mohammadi.
Meanwhile, Dawn quoted a defence ministry source as saying during his meetings with Afghan civil and military leaders, the army chief would discuss the regional security environment.
Later, the general will have a week-long US visit, which will start on November 16. Gen. Sharif is likely to meet US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel and other members of the American defence establishment.
