LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A provincial council (PC) candidate, a religious scholar and two others have been killed during separate security incidents in southern Helmand province, officials said on Tuesday.
A provincial council runner and two other people were killed by unidentified gunmen in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand province, on Monday night, a local official said.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that PC member Abdul Shakoor of Bushran area of Lashkargah City was coming back from his friends’ home when gunmen sprayed him with bullets.
Shakoor and two others were killed in the incident, he said but he no details into the incident. Police had launched investigation to identify the perpetrators.
A family member of the victim said Shakoor was a former member of the provincial council and now was a candidate for the post.
Elsewhere in the province, a religious scholar was killed by gunmen in police uniform in Nawa district of Helmand.
Maulvi Hashim was abducted by gunmen from his home last night and shot him dead on allegations that the slain man had relations with the district chief, Nawa Chief Abdul Manaf said.
