MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Five men are walking from northern Balkh province to the capital Kabul for the sake of peace and stability in the country.

Below 30 years of age, the men embarked on the 500-km journey from Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, hoping to convey the message of peace to the president in 25 days.

The walkers may face insecurity and heavy snowfalls at the Salang Pass.

“We would convey our hope for peace to President Ashraf Ghani and urge him to honestly work for strengthening peace in the country,” he added.

Aimaq said he had been working on the plan for the past two years. “We plan to traverse 20 kilometers a day and walk the entire route in 25 days.”

His companion Syed Nasir Ahmadi said they would show the world that Afghan youth were ready to cross deadly passes like Salang in the cold winter to propagate the message of peace.
