KABUL (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Saturday said building peace was his administration’s top priority and the elements opposing durable peace would be isolated.
The president stressed the need for peace during a meeting with Afghanistan Council (AUC) members, who called on him in Kabul, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
Maulvi Mohammad Nazif, head of the council, read out the council’s declaration condemning a recent string of attacks on civilians and security forces in different parts of the country.
The council said peace was vital for a developed Afghanistan and the body called on the government to make it a top priority.
Ghani lauded the resolve of ulema and declared terrorist attacks against the teachings of Islam and Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
During the meeting, the president said the unity government was determined to bring peace and stability to the country.
Meanwhile, Ghani participated in a condolence ceremony held in memory of Paktika blast victims. At least 61 people were killed and 70 others wounded as a result of a powerful explosion in Yahyakhel district last week.
