KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): One policeman has been killed and seven civilians wounded when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a police check post in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, the governor’s spokesman said.

Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News the suicide attack took place on Thursday night at around 8: 00 pm in Toray Oba area of the district.

Khpalwak said a woman and a child were among the wounded who were instantly evacuated to a hospital by police. Some of the injured were struggling for life, he added.

As usual, Talibaninfo-icon claimed responsibility for the attack, with the group spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said the suicide attacker, Samiullah, struck his explosive-laden car into the check post, leaving 18 policemen dead.

Separately, a roadside mine blast left two civilians wounded on Kabulinfo-icon highway in the vicinity of Kandahar City.

Nine militants had been killed in a two-hour long gun battle in Shah Wali Kot district, but police and civilians suffered no casualties during the fire fight, police added.
