President orders strict security around Salma dam

President orders strict security around Salma dam

Oct 14, 2014 - 19:01

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Tuesday ordered foolproof security around Salma dam in western Herat province.

In a video conference with the acting governor and local officials, the president called for disarming all gunmen living in the vicinity.

Governor Syed Afzal Wahidi informed the president police were unable to disarm rebels because they had the support of officials in the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

Ahmadzai was shocked by the provincial authorities’ weakness in combating gunmen. He said the government could not afford terrorist threats to important projects.

He ordered Wahidi to share his requirements with Kabulinfo-icon, saying the Indian-funded dam was a vital project for meeting agricultureinfo-icon and energy needs of the provinces.
