Prices of sugar, gold down in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of sugar and gold have edged down while other items remained steady during the outgoing week in the capital Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Fazal Rahman, head of Food Traders’ Union, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 50kg of Pakistani sugar has dipped down from 1,540 Afghanis to 1,520 Afghanis.

But he said one kilogram of Vietnamese green tea was sold at 180afs, the same quantity of African black tea at 210afs, a 50-kg of Pakistani flour at 1,240afs, 24-kg of rice1, 550afs and a 16-kg tin of Shayesta ghee at 980afs — same rates as last week.

Jan Mohammad, but a retailer in the Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,360afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 1,770afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 1,800afs.

He sold a 16-kg tin of Shayesta ghee was sold for 1,050afs, one kilogram of African black tea for 250afs and the same quantity of Vietnam green tea for 240afs — higher than wholesale prices.

The prices of fuel also remain steady. Abdul Saboor a fuel station owner in Wazirabad said one liter of petrol was sold at 44afs and the same quantity of diesel for 46afs, the same price as of last week.

Mohammad Usman, a liquefied gas seller in Taimani area, sold one kilogram of gas for 35afs.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweler in Timoor Shahee area, said the price of one gram of Russian gold fell from 1,650afs to 1,600afs and the price of same quantity of the Arabian variety from 2,050afs to 2,000afs.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said buying rate of one US dollar was 57.30afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 561afs. Last week’s exchange value of dollar stood at 57.30afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 560afs.
