KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah pledged on Monday the unity government would do all it could to safeguard the freedom of expression and take steps to resolves the problems faced by the community.

At a meeting with Asia Deputy Director at the Human Rights Watch Phelim Kine and Patricia Gossman, a senior HRW researcher on Afghanistan, the CEO said the government was doing its bit to prevent human rights violations in the country.

Respect for human rights and protecting them was an import part of the Afghan constitution, said Abdullah, a former foreign minister. He pledged all-out efforts to discharge the constitutional obligation in an efficient manner.

Gossman expressed concern over increasing violence against journalists and asked the government to protect their lives. The HRW officials also voiced their reservation about the delay in approval of the journalist protection law.

The HRW is all poised to release its annual report on the human rights situation in Afghanistan on Tuesday. Last year was the bloodiest for journalist in Afghanistan, where 125 cases of violation, including eight incidents of murder, were recorded.
