Protest staged against Nangarhar traffic chief
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Dozens of people protested against the traffic director in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on Monday.
Enraged residents gathered in the Shahid Adam Khan Talashai Chowk and raised slogans against the director for teasing vendors and creating problems for civilians.
A cart-pusher, Muhammad Hussain, told Afghan Pajhwok News the traffic department car hit a cart owner and then sped away. The cart owner remains hospitalised.
He alleged the traffic police bothered poor people and received bribes from them. The hawker sought action against the traffic director.
A shopkeeper in the area confirmed the cart-pusher was injured by the traffic director’s vehicle. The protestors tried to burn the vehicle, but police opened fire to disperse them.
On the other hand, the traffic official denied the incident, saying the vendor was hospitalised after falling ill.
