FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): At least six militants including a commander have been killed in separate clashes in western Ghor province, an official said on Monday.
Governor Syed Anwar Rahmati told Pajhwok Afghan News a large number of Taliban stormed Shah Joi and Shahidan areas of Dolina district.
But the assailants faced strong resistance from Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and a team of local peace volunteers, he said, adding the militants wanted to capture the two villages but failed.
Dolina district chief, Mohammad Ismail, said about 300 militants — led by their shadow governor Mullah Abdul Khaliq — stormed the areas and fired tens of rockets at the two villages.
But Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi claimed heavy casualties had been inflicted on security forces in Dolina.
Elsewhere in the province, a Taliban commander was killed in Charsadda district. Rahmati said the clash between the insurgents and Afghan forces erupted late on Sunday.
