MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): A 20-bed rehabilitation centre for drug addicts has started functioning in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Thursday.
The centre was constructed over 450 square metres of land by the Ministry of Counternarcotics at a cost of about 16 million afghanis, the governor’s spokesman said.
Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the facility took one year to complete, having 17 rooms, a boundary wall, a lawn and other needed facilities.
Public Health Director Dr. Ghulam Farooq Mukhlis said the rehabilitation centre was yet to be formally handed over to his department.
Presently, only Wadan rehabilitation centre is functioning in Maidan Wardak, where about 18,000 people are addicted to drugs.
