Ring road contractor escapes with $12m

KABUL without its permission company after withdrawing $12 million from the bank.

Minister Najibullah Ozhan informed the Wolesi Jirga on Saturday the company had been contracted to build a ring road but it ran away with $12 million in addition to $107 million deposited in its name.

A number of Wolesi Jirga members asked Ozhan to brief them on suspension of work on the 3,362-km -road. He said the ECCI-METAG company had been contracted in 2012 to construct a 237-km portion of the road connecting Faryab and Herat provinces.

The Presidential Palace has constituted a six-member committee comprising representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs, Public Works, Interior and Commerce to look into the matter.
