KANDAHAR CITY/JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two security officials have been killed in separate incidents in southern Kandahar province, authorities said on Saturday.
The National Directorate of Security (NDS) head for Ziri district was killed district and three personnel were wounded in a suicide attack in Nawa village of Spin Boldak district on Friday afternoon, the governor’s spokesman said.
Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News that NDS officer Shah Mahmood was trying to arrest the suicide bomber, who detonated his explosives before being was captured.
As usual, Taliban militants claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that 10 intelligence agents had been killed and wounded..
Meanwhile, the police chief for the Ghorak district of Nangarhar was killed while going on on his motorcycle to a police post that came under attack. Mohammad Shafi, along with a companion, was gunned down on Friday.
According to another report, four Taliban insurgents and a policeman were killed in the Lalpura district of eastern Nangarhar province.
According to a statement from the governor’s house, the overnight incident took place after insurgents stormed a police post in the district.
