KABUL (Pajhwok): The commander of Afghan National Army (ANA) Special Operations Division on Thursday warned the insurgents of stern action.

Addressing a graduation ceremony for 7,400 commandos in Kabul, Brig. Gen. Sayed Abdul Karim underlined the need for effective security measures.

The graduates completed a 10-month commando training course. Some 156 candidates were disqualified — a step that highlighted the intensity of the course.

Gen Karim told the graduates it was their duty to bring peace and security to the country and defending its sovereignty. “Now is the time to put in to practice what you have learnt.”

The 13-year combat mission of NATO formally ended on January 1, when Afghan forces took the lead in securing the country and combating the insurgency.

“It’s not necessary to be kind toward the enemy. Tie their hands behind their backs and bring them to justice. The laws of war don’t require you to be kind,” Karim observed.

It is said dozens of Special Forces from the National Directorate of Security (NDS) were also part of the graduates.

Col. Mohammad Shafi, commander of the NDS Quick Reaction Force, asked the public, the Ulema activists to morally support the Afghan forces.
