KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Ten insurgents, including a notorious commander, were killed and two others wounded in the ongoing clearing operations in northern Kunduz province, officials said on Sunday.

Sayyed Sarwar Hussaini, police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News local and foreign fighters were killed during security forces offensive in Chardara and Ali Abad districts.

Mullah commander, was among the slain militants, he confirmed. In addition, security forces revered ten Kalashnikovs and assault rifles from the militants.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed inflicting heavy casualties on security forces and damaging four police check posts.

Hazrat Ali, a resident of the locality, said Taliban had fled Chardara because of looming clearing operations but they were staging comeback after the offensive was ended.

“Last night security forces and the Taliban have exchanged heavy fire for hours which created panic among locals. More security personnel should be deployed to make the district secure,” he suggested.
