LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Taliban commanders had reportedly killed their 17 fighters who retreated from the battle in Sangin district of southern Helmand province and moved to safe havens, an official said on Sunday.

The 17 guerrillas were executed by their masters on Saturday in Sangin, where security forces had launched a joint clearing operation, said Lt. Col. Mohammad Rassoul Zazai, a spokesman for the Afghan National Army’s 215th Maiwand Military Corps.

He told Pajhwok so far 42 militants had been killed and 17 others wounded in Bostanzai, Poza, Garm Ab, Khanan and Haji Wakeel areas of the district during clashes with security forces.

Zazai said security forces also defused more than 245 landmines planted in the areas by the Taliban.
