GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Suspected insurgents pulled seven people out of a passenger bus and shot three of them dead on the Kabul-Kandahar Highway in southern Ghazni province on Thursday, an official said.

The seven men were snatched at gunpoint from the state-run bus service “303” in Noogha area on the outskirts of Ghazni City, the provincial capital, currently serving as the Asian Capital of Islamic Civilisation, the governor’s spokesman said.

Shafique Nang told Pajhwok Afghan News the gunmen shot dead three of the passengers and held hostage the remaining four.

He said the victims were yet to be identified, but they were travelling home from Kabul to spend Eid holidays with their families.

Dr. Baz Mohammad Himmat, the provincial Civil Hospital head, confirmed receiving three bullets-riddled bodies at the hospital in the afternoon. He said the corpses were taken to Kabul by their families.

There has been no word from the Taliban about the incident that occurred five kilometres from Ghazni City on the Kabul-Kandahar road. Security situation in the area has lately deteriorated.
