KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A purported Taliban judge has been arrested in southern Kandahar province, police said on Thursday.

Police spokesman Zia Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News the judge, Qazi Sher Muhammad, was detained in the 9th police district of Kandahar City, the provincial capital.

He said the detainee, a resident of central Uruzgan province, had confessed to resolving disputes among people on behalf of the Taliban.

Muhammad was associated with Taliban commander Mualvi Tahir group accused of many attacks on Afghan security forces in the Khakrez district.

Police last week claimed detaining two would-be suicide attackers and four militants emplacing roadside bombs.
