FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A Taliban-designated district chief has been killed along with two foreign militants during an airstrike in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said Tuesday.

The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Navid Frotan, told Pajhwok Afghan News five militants, including Taliban’s district chief Mullah Yasin and two other rebels affiliated with Tajikistan’s Ensarullah group, were killed during an air raid by Afghan forces late on Tuesday.

He said that the operation was launched in Joibar area of Juram district. Director for commando unit of the Ministry of Defense said two posts of the Taliban located in Joibar area were completely destroyed in the attack. Taliban did not comment on the incident.

Security officials on Tuesday said that a Taliban shadow governor for Badakhshan, Qari Fakhruddin along with his 14 accomplices was killed during an attack in Juram district.

However, militants have rejected the claim and said fighters had inflected heavy casualties on security forces in Juram clash.

According to refugees department in Badakhshan, more than one hundred families have been displaced due to insecurity in the province.
