WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The UN Security Council, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Al-Qaida and other terrorist groups in the country.

Expressing their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and government of Afghanistan, members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice.

“The members of the Security Council reiterated that no terrorist act can reverse the path towards Afghan-led peace, democracy and stability in Afghanistan, which is supported by the people and the government of Afghanistan and by the international community,” they said in statement.

Separately, UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon condemned in the strongest possible terms the attack in southeastern Afghanistan. “The attack on civilians in Paktika during the holy month of Ramadan is a despicable criminal act, which killed and injured many innocent people, including children,” he said in a statement.

“The Secretary-General further condemns a targeted attack against civilian workers in Kabul today, which killed two government employees,” it added.

The United Nation Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemned the other terrorists attack in southeastern Paktika province, which left dozens of people dead and wounded.

The US Embassy also flayed the attacks. “The US Embassy condemns these acts of violence. Whether in marketplaces or going to work at government buildings, Afghans deserve and desire peace. We remember those killed and wounded today and offer condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

Meanwhile, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) also slammed the cowardly suicide attack in Orgun district. The attack which took place during the holy month of Ramadan in a crowded marketplace resulted in significant civilian casualties to include women and children.

Some of the more critically injured have been brought to ISAF clinics in eastern Afghanistan for treatment. While the Taliban have denied involvement, anti-government elements continue to demonstrate their complete disregard for human life.

“I express my sympathies to the victims and families of those injured and killed in this senseless attack,” said Lt. Gen. Carsten Jacobson, deputy commander of the NATO-led force. “The premeditated and indiscriminate killings of civilians must stop.”
