TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): For the first time, women of central Uruzgan province on Thursday publicly voiced their support for Afghan security forces and presented them bouquets as a token of respect.

Dozens of women attended a gathering in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, along with a larger number of men to pay homage to Afghan forces for their efforts to maintain security and the sacrifices the rendered in the line of duty.

Speaking to Pajhwok on the sidelines of the gathering, Women’s Affairs Director Radha Sami Wafa said dozens of females had presented flowers to the security personnel.

“It is these personnel who defend our soil. It is for the first time in Uruzgan’s history that women have announced their support for national security forces and presented them with flowers.”

Fatima, wearing a shawl around her head, was among several females who handed a bunch of flowers to security men standing in a queue. “They are our brothers who protect our country,” Fatima remarked.

The gathering at the Governor’s House was attended by local residents, acting Governor Amanullah Taimouri and a number of government officials.

Taimouri said Afghan forces had the ability to defend the country and provide security to people independently.

“For peace and stability, it is crucial that people support their security forces and cooperate with them in maintaining security,” he said.

Meanwhile, Uruzgan chief of courts Maulvi groups to support the security forces.
