WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The United States on Friday welcomed the prospect of improved co-operation between Afghanistan, calling President Ashraf Ghani’s trip to Islamabad as important in this regard.
“We welcome the prospect of improved cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and certainly, a trip there, a visit, an opportunity to have a dialogue is a good opportunity for that,” State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki, told reporters at her daily news conference.
Psaki was responding to questions on Ghani’s maiden Islamabad visit, which is said to be very successful and a step towards normalization of relationship between the two neighbours.
Responding to another question, Psaki said India had been an important partner in Afghanistan and the US had been in close touch over the course not just of the last few months but over the course of the last few years.
“We’ll certainly continue to coordinate with them as we work to help Afghanistan maintain the progress they’ve made on certain areas moving forward after we remove our troops,” she said.
