JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The construction of two key bridges in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, has been delayed by the Public Works Department, a local official said on Monday.
Several months ago, construction work on three bridges was launched but the projects remain far from complete due to their slow-paced construction.
Public Works Director Eng. Gul Rassoul confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the slow construction of Jandarma and Farm Hada bridges in Jalalabad. He has discussed the issue with the contractors to accelerate work on the bridges.
“Based on the contract, we should pay the company money in the middle of work, but we have no funds to pay and that is why the firm has stopped work,” he explained.
Faqir added the company had promised to resume work next week after obtaining funds. The Jandarma bridge project would be completed soon if the company worked on it without disruption, he believed.
The Farm Hada bridge had also been stopped by an overflowing stream in the area, he said, adding workers faced problems due to the canal.
