KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): The graveling of Khost-Ghulam Khan Road, one of the three major border crossings between Afghanistan, is expected to be completed in few months, an official said on Saturday

Khost Public Works Director Eng. Mamur Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News reconstruction work of the road had started eight months ago.

He said the USAID had provided $10.5 million for the project with a timescale of 17 months by an Afghan construction company.

Construction of 65 culverts, some bridges and retaining walls measuring 800 kilometers were part of the project, he added.

Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi, accompanied by other officials, visited the under construction road late on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the acting governor said the road was important like other transit trade routes for speedy economic activities.

He added the Khost-Ghulam Khan Road’s reconstruction would help improve economic, social and security relations with Pakistan.

The road had earlier been constructed by the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), but started damaging after some time due poor quality of construction work.
